I just read an interesting post over on the AppShopper site. The post shows an interesting graph charting app approvals for each day. The stand out day is easily September 21st that shows 1394 apps approved on that one day alone.

There is also a separate graph showing the number of Games approved by day.

77 year old Granny iPhone Programmer

Sep 16, 2009 | Labels: , , | 0 comments |

I originally saw this story on the 71squared site.

Marie, who is a 77 year old grandmother has started a blog where she will document her journey in developing an iPhone game. The blog is called "Granny Coder" and it is subtitled "iPhone games programming from unusual perspective".

I love that her first post is titled: "Dear kids, welcome to my blog".

Here is a bit from her blog:

I have one secret that practically nobody (except my family) knows about - I am Apple enthusiast, especially i love Mac and iPhone. By the way, it was my passion for Apple what persuade me to start with this blog.

Some time ago, I got myself to programming. Ta-dah! Yes, your eyes and ears are working right, I hope, my dear. I remeber that moment like it was yesterday - my youngest grandson Michal (I have 5 grandchildren - 3 boys and 2 girls) bought me an iPhone. It was like little magic when I saw it for the first time. Well, I had mobile phones before of course, but this was something I coudn't explain - there was everything moving, everything was shiny and clean (like in my kitchen - I think every good housewife should have her kitchen clean!) and mostly I didn't need to use my glasses when I was working with it. This little iPhone thing really thrilled me! And it was so close to start my big passion for iPhone. When I saw all the cool applications and heard stories about talented little kids programming games for iPhone, I said: "Marie, if little kids can learn this you can too!" This is the beginning of the story when I became - according to my grandsons - the granny coder...

The Imperial version of my handyman iPhone app' DIY Concrete is now available on the iTunes App Store.

This version has a redesigned user interface and handles all the calculations you need to work out and order concrete for your project in cubic yards or in 80LB pre-mixed bags.

Click here to go directly to the iTunes App Store.

Click here to go to the DIY Concrete website.

DIY Concrete Imperial - is a handy, easy to use application to help you work out the volume and cost of concrete (cement) required for your project, in cubic meters or 80LB pre-mixed Bags.

DIY Concrete Imperial - is useful to the DIY Home Handyman as well as professional trades people, as a quick and simple way for working out concrete volume and price requirements.

This application calculates the volume you require when ordering for a large amount that will be delivered by truck, as well as a 80LB Pre-mixed Bag calculator for the smaller DIY Handyman projects.

As well as calculating the volume, you can also add the cubic meter price or bag price to give you an overall cost of the concrete order.

All you need to do is enter the Length and Width in feet and the Depth in inches. The price component is optional. Then press the "Calculate" button.

Click "Reset" to start again with clean empty fields.

Also included are a couple of DIY Concrete Tips for on-site 90 degree set-out and the ratio for a standard concrete mix.

iPhone 3GS in Australia Tomorrow

Jun 25, 2009 | Labels: | 1 comments |

The new iPhone 3GS will be available in Australia Friday 26th June.

Check out your Apple Store, Telstra, Optus and Vodafone stores.

Telstra still has not released their pricing for the new 3GS and the Tethering feature, whereas Vodafone will have no charge and Optus will be charging $9.99 per month.

This is from the Australian news website:

Optus dismayed customers with the news it would charge $9.99 a month to unlock the new modem tethering feature available with the iPhone 3GS and the previous model once it has been upgraded to the OS 3.0 software release. Optus waives the tethering charge for customers who buy additional data packs beyond that included with the phone plans.

Vodafone has decided against tethering charges.

Easy iPhone Sales Data - appFigures

Jun 10, 2009 | Labels: , , | 0 comments |

I have been using appFigures now for about a month to check my downloads and revenue, and am very happy with the results so far.

It is very easy to use and the interface is a lot like Google Analytics, easy to read and understand. As a developer you can also check your App's ranking and also any reviews you may received.

Also, the thing I like the most is that I receive an email every night with the previous day's sales data. No need for me to log in manually every day. That's a great feature.

The hardest part about the whole process is supplying your iTunes log-in details so they can connect to your account and retrieve your app's information, but they do specify that security is a high priority.

Click here to go to the appFigures site.

Here is some info from the site:

What is appFigures?
As iPhone developers we didn't like the way reports are displayed in iTunes Connect. We wanted to see totals, amounts, and more than the past seven days. So we created appFigures and opened it to all other iPhone developers to enjoy.

appFigures is a utility application by Fileitup Media that lets iPhone application developers view their downloads, updates, and profits using interactive charts and browsable data that's easy to view and understand.

How does appFigures work?
appFigures imports reads the text-file reports that Apple provides developers through iTunes Connet and transforms them into structured data. Reports can be uploaded manually, by syncing with iTunes Connect, or automatically on a daily schedule using Auto Import.

What kind of files can be imported?
appFigures can import daily and weekly reports download reports from iTunes Connect. Files can be imported automatically, by syncing with iTunes Connect on-demand, or by uploading them from your computer.

Is my data secure?
Yes. We take security seriously and take multiple measure to make sure it is protected. We encrypt all private information and protect all of your data on our own secure servers. We restrict access to your information so no one other than you can view your reports, not even us.

The application will calculate cubic meters and price for the larger projects that require delivery by concrete truck, and it also calculates the qty of 20KG Pre-mixed bags required for the smaller projects. This version only calculates in metric, but the imperial section will be added soon, and will be available as a free download when available.
